I'm not an expert nor do I play one on TV but I do take my ques from my customers and this is where I pass on what they are doing to you.
I must start out by saying a very big appology for not posting in a VERY long time. All of my intentions were set on continueing this blog.

Life gets very busy and I found that I have been pulled in so many directions that it has been very hard to find my center.

A little over a year ago I found myself becoming a new mommy all over again. Shut Up! Yep, it's true but the circumstances that led to it weren't "natural." That is unless you are talking about adoption. After 20+ years of being mommy to boys a little girl has captured my heart in ways I never knew could be done. I love my boys and didn't realize how you could love a child that wasn't born to you as much. I must tell you the love is there and maybe even more. Age has had a way of mellowing me out and allowing me to enjoy this little angel more than I did my boys. With them I was always focused and worried about their development and if I was a good mama. With her I'm just enjoying every moment.

Here is my sweet angel.

I plan to continue to post here off and on to update you on my projects going forward, from sewing to furniture refinishing.

Otherwise you can find me here http://stephaniedeese.stampinup.net/ where I admittedly am a papercrafter with a problem. So much so that I had to sign up to be a Stampin' Up! demonstrator to support my addiction to paper, stamps, and ribbons. Oh my!

Thank you so much for keeping in touch with me and stopping by.
I'm finally pleased enough with my work to publish it here. Time and material play a huge part in doing these redesigns. The first redesign was done quickly but the material I used was not pleasing to the eye. The seat seemed lumpy and no matter what I did I couldn't seem to get it smooth. Sorry, no pictures of the first re-do. I changed the foam to a better upholstery foam and added appropriate bonded Dacron. I must apologize for not showing step by step pictures and instructions, I will next time.

I like the rounded smooth seat the professional materials give. And the rounded smooth look was what I was after as in the photo from my previous post.

You can see that the task of stripping the paint from the wood was not an undertaking I was willing to do. I like the black paint and the look that it gives the bar stool so I settled for the black.

The first attempt also included decorative furniture nails. I wasn't pleased with this look, again I regret I don't have a photo for you. I was going for a more rustic appearance with this stool so I switched to Blued Tacks. I like the look, its rustic and adds to the "cottage/barn" look I like.

You can see that the tacks are not uniform and if you are the type of person that needs everything measured perfectly and in perfect rows I would not recommend using them. It is difficult to get these placed in exact uniformity. But I like it.

The fabric is a duck canvas that is light tan. I would have liked to use linen or even burlap but with my family using this stool a great deal there is no way either of these fabrics would have held up. The tougher duck canvas seems to hold up well. I would recommend a protectant spray on anything you recover to help with clean up.

I hope you enjoyed this post now its on to my next project of a pair of chairs, for a customer. I will post the steps on this next one and now that school is starting (whew, thought it never would) I can get to my posts on a regular basis.

The background on this stool is simple, I needed a bar stool for sitting at my kitchen computer. As I'm writing this I'm standing. Not very comfortable.

I was perusing one of the local Antique Stores for furniture that I can refurbish, redesign or just play with. This bar stool is not antique. In my area some antique malls double as indoor flea markets. But this I found "locally" for just a little more than I wanted to give for it but I knew the seller was local and it would contribute to the local economy. You got to do your share to help. Faux leather cover and festive paint design set aside, this stool fits my purpose. It's simple, low profile and light so it can be set aside in a small place when not in use.

My inspiration for this project is from Restoration Hardware, www.restorationhardware.com. I love this furniture/design website but the prices are beyond my budget. I would link to the one in particular I liked but it doesn't take long for this company to shuffle through to the next line of furniture or designs. Sold out, which means it was popular. I had printed the photo for my purpose, so I scanned it for you. I hope you can see it clearly enough that the style I'm moving toward shows through.

I will keep you updated on the progress with photos. Since the economy tanked and I had to close my small little business in 2009 so that I could work full time for someone else much has happened.

Last year, the first of March Mom was diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer. Those of you who don't know much about this type of cancer it's a death sentence, it's just a matter of time. Since that time I have been focused on her, her treatment, her reality and mine. She passed on November 19th of 2011. It was a hard Thanksgiving and even harder Christmas. I'm still dealing with this huge loss in my life. It's a daily, hourly and sometimes every second thing.

The one thing she wanted for me was to be happy and do what makes me happy. Now my reality has changed, I lost my full time job when I left to take care of Mom in her final days. It's fine financially, we can make it with a few budgeting cut backs but I want to do what I love and more money wouldn't hurt.

Southern Charm Stitches is getting revised and revived. The direction I'm wanting to take is redesigning old furniture. I love to recycle and redesign old furniture or other items. As I create my projects I will post them here. I will also post how sales go and what I do to market myself and my goods locally. I don't have a plan to sell online, that could change but not now. I plan to use Facebook, this blog and maybe even Twitter to promote and market.

The photo is of me and mom this past summer.

Thank you!!

Steph

Southern Charm Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07149024966553689201noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4658713642275394914.post-7224295965652961642010-01-26T17:31:00.003-05:002010-01-26T17:40:28.679-05:00My change of plansI've let you know that I'm no longer in business or at least not the same business.

So, I'm getting rid of inventory. I'm trying to shed the excess inventory on eBay but it's not going well.

If any one is interested in, organic onsies and bibs, baby blankets, handkerchiefs, dinner napkins, etc....just let me know. I don't want to really profit just to clear out the inventory and hopefully recoop some money.

Here's a link to somethings on eBay Pink Onsie and Pink Bib

If you are interested please let me know by emailing me at stephaniedeese@gmail.com.

Thanks!Southern Charm Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07149024966553689201noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4658713642275394914.post-80534227736441648822010-01-26T07:17:00.002-05:002010-01-26T07:24:29.527-05:00What I'm doing now. With the economy in decline, my business had all but was non-existent and my husband received a pay cut. While we were tracking on the bills piled up and I had to make a change.

Now, I'm working fulltime in the insurance industry (previous career), thank God I was able to find a job. With this my business is on hold. I'm having to make heart breaking decisions about my dream/business. It could be worse and I know it.

For now I'm experimenting with things in my "free time." When ever I can find it. I'm the mother of two very active pre-teen boys, working 40 hours per week, with a husband who spends more time working and sleeping than anything else. It seems like the "free time" is far and few between. I do want to continue my blog and get back to my business someday. I will get back to posting on the blog about my efforts and journey and some of the things I'm up to.

Thanks for reading.Southern Charm Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07149024966553689201noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4658713642275394914.post-21790701347793409772009-07-13T08:54:00.003-04:002009-07-13T08:59:54.684-04:00Special Personalized Anniversary Gifts

Do you have a 2nd anniversary around the corner? The traditional gift for the 2nd anniversary gift is cotton. When my second anniversary came around, many years ago now, I wondered what in the world I would get my husband for a gift. Cotton? Socks, underwear a cotton shirt? Seriously I was stuck, nothing sounded like a good gift. I only wish I had thought of the gift that I now suggest to many, a monogrammed cotton handkerchief. Men’s and Ladies’ cotton handkerchiefs make great gifts all their own but having it monogrammed makes it an extra special gift.

A white handkerchief with you color choice of monogrammed letters works perfectly for that special 2nd anniversary gift. Placed in a plain white box with a simple ribbon tied around it, nothing can be more classic.

And what about the 4th and 12th wedding anniversary gift, linen? Well again monogrammed linen handkerchiefs make a perfect gift. It’s a step up from the classic cotton to the rich draping feel of the linen. And again the handkerchief itself would make a great gift but to have it monogrammed takes it to a new level.

Whether you stay with traditional gifts or you buy and give what ever you feel like cotton and linen monogrammed handkerchiefs make great gifts. I’ve done many anniversary handkerchiefs where I placed the names or monogram of the wedding couple on one corner of the handkerchief and the wedding date with the anniversary date on the opposite corner. The handkerchiefs were usually white with the thread coordinating the color of the traditional anniversary gift, silver and gold are popular. These make wonderful gifts.

Southern Charm Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07149024966553689201noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4658713642275394914.post-78286774617429319122009-06-09T05:43:00.005-04:002009-06-09T06:06:53.785-04:00Monogrammed Diaper Bags - New Styles AvailableI am very excited to announce that we now have new monogrammed diaper bags available.

Colors available are Lime and Black Damask, Pink and Black Damask and Blue and Black Damask.
These monogrammed diaper bags are 15 inches in height, 13 inches in width and 5 and half inches in depth.

The lining is black and white gingham check with pockets that are both open and zippered.

Included with the monogrammed diaper bag is the cosmetic zippered bag and the matching gingham check changing pad. What a great way for the new bride to fill her home with personalized items that are complementary to her decor.

Linen guest towels, linen accent pillows for the bed or a chair in the bedroom, and linen dinner napkins are just a few popular items to mention. I was watching an episode of "Rate My Space" on HGTV and noticed that in a French Inspired Bathroom, http://www.hgtv.com/rate-my-space/french-inspired-bathroom/index.html the designer, Angelo Surmelis placed towels with the couples last name monogrammed in the bathroom as well as two more sets on each side of the vanity, one with the husband's first name initial and the other with the wife's first name initial monogrammed on the towels.

In my own bath, which is the background for some of my towel images, I have used the full monogram for a couple, my first name initial, our last name initial (larger) and his first name initial. I love this more traditional form of monogram but I love the single letter monograms equally! Here is the link to my website with the monogram towels http://www.southerncharmstitches.com/. The front page has mostly images of the embroidered cherry blossom and pineapple designs. Handkerchiefs are the number one sellers! Customers request the handkerchiefs have the bride and grooms monogram on one side with their names and the wedding date on the opposite corner. The wedding date commemorates their special day beautifully. Their names are usually in the “Julie & Justin” format with the date embroidered just under their names. The date is usually in the “October 25, 2009” format. Choose white thread on a white handkerchief or ivory thread on an ivory handkerchief for the lady’s and white on white for the man’s to give the gift a classic look. Otherwise, choose a color that coordinates with the bride’s wedding colors.

Many brides and grooms have chosen the monogrammed handkerchiefs as gifts to their wedding party. Bride’s maids and groomsmen love the personalized touch as well as having something that they can keep and use. These handkerchiefs are durable! Monogram the handkerchief with a full monogram or just the last name initial.

Families of the bride and groom find these handkerchiefs very special! The mother and father of the bride and groom or the grand parents, either way it gives them an extra special way to have a wonderful keepsake of the wedding. One example would be to give them a handkerchief with the bride and groom’s monogram on it with the date on the opposite corner. Another way would be to have their very own monogram on the handkerchief with the bride and groom’s name and date on the opposite corner.

There are many personalized gifts for weddings, handkerchiefs are a classic that can be personalized to each person receiving it. I love them!

Do you have a favorite? I would love to hear from you!

Sincerely, Steph
Southern Charm Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07149024966553689201noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4658713642275394914.post-87186224520282588102008-12-31T15:06:00.003-05:002008-12-31T15:24:20.120-05:00Valentine's Day!!!!!!!!!!!Are you already thinking about what to get that special person for Valentine's Day?

I know I am!

Of course I've given my special guys, my husband and two boys, the special gift of monogrammed handkerchiefs. They love them, one because the boys feel "grown up" and two because there's no arguing over whose is whose. I have perfect gentlemen abounding.

Personalized gifts are a wonderful way to give a special someone the Valentine's gift they deserve.

A set of monogrammed handkerchiefs, a monogrammed linen book mark or a posh monogrammed pillow makes a great gift for Valentine's Day. How lovely to receive something that means someone took the time to remember you and get something that is personal.

I think personalized gifts are great, you can use their initials to have it monogrammed or you can use their first or last name to make it a personalized gift. Either way is great.

Have a great Valentine's Day gift giving season!Southern Charm Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07149024966553689201noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4658713642275394914.post-14120074568245843912008-12-20T08:14:00.001-05:002008-12-20T08:44:44.310-05:00Christmas is almost here.........I've been working around the clock getting Christmas orders out and have a few more last minute ones to get out.

The gift that has been the most popular from my site have been the Men's Monogrammed Handkerchiefs. I love this......it tells me that gifters are wanting to give that special man in their lives a gift that has a personal and old world touch. I also think that it is because it's an affordable luxury.

Again, the most popular lettering arrangement for these men's monogrammed handkerchiefs is the traditional first name initial, last name initial (larger), and lastly the middle name initial, "WDL."

Also, the most popular colors for the monogram has been black followed by navy, grey and white. Yes, white on white is very popular for men. I think it allows gentlemen to be somewhat discreet but still debonair in a way.

The second most popular gift is split between the lady's monogrammed handkerchiefs and the monogrammed linen bookmark. I love the monogrammed linen bookmark for teachers, Sunday school teachers as well as garden club friends or any friend for that matter!

I love Christmas and I love that it is one of my busiest times of the year!

Merry Christmas to all and to all a great gifting year!

Sincerely,

StephanieSouthern Charm Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07149024966553689201noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4658713642275394914.post-12560375225247280202008-09-29T11:45:00.000-04:002008-09-29T11:55:27.750-04:00Men's Monogram Lettering StylesI've often been asked which way is the best lettering arrangement for the men's monogrammed handkerchief.

The majority of orders that I get do request that the man's monogram be "first name initial," "last name initial," and then the "middle name initial." The last name initial is in the center and larger the first and middle name initial. As in "KDL," Kerry Lee Deese.

There are some who prefer the monogram letters be all the same size and in the order of "KLD."

Some even prefer there only be two letters "KD."

I've done all of these and wondered what your opinion would be on this subject.Southern Charm Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07149024966553689201noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4658713642275394914.post-20123801053927778452008-09-02T10:08:00.001-04:002008-09-02T10:08:42.058-04:00Welcome to Southern Charm Stitches!Welcome to Southern Charm Stitches!Southern Charm Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07149024966553689201noreply@blogger.com0
